Arrival & Timing
- Mysore has a flexible start, but please arrive with enough time to complete your practice without rushing.
- Beginners are asked to arrive at the beginning of class so we can guide you with more attention.
- More experienced students may arrive later, as long as they can practice independently and without disrupting the room.
- Last entry is no later than 1 hour before the end of class.
- Upon arrival — a quiet nod, eye contact, or a small smile is enough.
- For Led class, please arrive before the start time. Late entry is not permitted.
Consistency
This method works through repetition. A steady schedule will help you feel progress more clearly.
Irregular practice can make it harder to understand the system.
Registration & Scheduling
- Please register for each class at least 24 hours in advance.
- Classes will not run without registrations.
- Do not rely on others to register — especially in a smaller community where plans can change.
- If you didn't register, always check the schedule before coming.
Silence & Environment
- Once practice begins, we keep the room quiet.
- Please avoid conversations, comments, or teaching cues to fellow students. Even if you have teaching experience, this is your time to practice.
- Questions or brief feedback are welcome — just keep them quiet and respectful of the room.
- Phones on silent before entering. If you expect something urgent, feel free to let us know.
- Move calmly and with awareness. When unrolling your mat, do it slowly and quietly.
Practice Approach
- Follow the method as taught. Try not to mix in other sequences or personal variations.
- Postures are given step by step — there is no need to rush ahead.
- If you have any injuries or discomfort, please speak with the teacher so we can offer appropriate modifications.
- Asking for help or support (including a spot) is always welcome.
- Rest when needed, but stay present in your space.
- No water during practice — please hydrate before and after.
Teacher-Student Relationship
- Take guidance from the teacher — adjustments and instructions are part of the process.
- You are here to learn, and we are here to guide you.
- Communication is important. If you have questions, feedback, feel unsure, or experience any discomfort with the teaching approach, please speak with us before or after practice.
- If you prefer not to receive adjustments, or would like more support, just let us know.
Health & Consideration
If you are feeling unwell or may be contagious, please take rest and come back when you're fully recovered.
This helps take care of both you and the community.
Hygiene & Dress
- Practice with a clean body and mat.
- Please avoid strong perfumes or scents.
- Be mindful of your nails. Long or sharp nails can scratch you or others, affect grips and binds, and make adjustments less safe.
- Wear simple, comfortable clothing that allows movement and adjustments.
Mysore Etiquette
- Over time, try to rely less on watching others — memorization is part of the practice.
- Stay on your mat unless guided otherwise.
- Be aware of the space around you — physically and energetically.
Led Class
- Follow the count and pace as given.
- Stay with the group, even when it feels challenging — this is part of learning.
Moon Days & Rest
- The Shala is closed on new and full moon days.
- Ladies may choose how to approach practice during the first days of their cycle — whether to rest or to modify as needed.
Leaving the Room
- Stay for finishing postures unless advised otherwise.
- When leaving, please do so quietly to avoid disturbing others.
These guidelines protect the space, the method, and your practice. We're building this together — thank you for being part of it.
With love and disciplined encouragement,
Daria, Aleks & the AYFTL Team
